Learning to Wait

I have been in a funk the last couple of weeks.  I’d felt so compelled to “strike while the iron was hot” with my writing, that I lost my focus.  I was in high gear and felt the need for speed, but sometimes I just need to slow down and remember that I am not the one in control here…

BeStillAndKnowThatIAmGod

I’d been praying for inspiration and guidance, yet wasn’t receiving any.  Perhaps a sign that I am wanting to move faster than God, but that’s just not possible.  If I jump ahead, He will certainly Continue reading

Change Yourself, Change the World

In my last post, I spoke about making changes to a negative situation in our lives.  But what if there’s something about ourselves that needs to change?  A wrong attitude or thought pattern?  One that’s unhealthy and doesn’t do us or anyone else any good?

This can be a lot trickier to determine.  How are we to know when there’s something in our heart that needs to change?

One of the problems with seeing our own flaws is pride.  Pride blocks the Holy Spirit’s ability to communicate with us.  It tells us we are just fine the way we are, thank you very much.  What do you mean we need to change something?  I’m doing just fine on my own…

It takes a humble heart to be able to kick your pride to the curb.  We can’t change without being honest with ourselves.  We all have something that can be improved, something we can Continue reading

Have Faith, Will Travel

Sometimes in life we get ourselves into situations that we feel we need to stay in.  Situations that may not be the best for us to live up to our true potential.

Maybe we get stuck in a job we don’t like and feel we need to stay just because it’s stable and will pay the bills.  Or maybe it’s a relationship we invest a lot of time in, so we feel we can’t just up and walk away.

But when any of these negative situations goes on for too long, it can begin to steal our joy and zest for life.  I speak from experience, and it’s one of the reasons I am so passionate about telling people that we have but one life to live, so it’s important that we live it well and to its fullest potential.  God wants us to live in such a way that it’s a light for all to see.  We can’t do that if we’re stuck in a situation that’s constantly Continue reading

Christianity’s Worst-Kept Secret

The idea for this post hit me at probably one of the most inconvenient times, when I was deep in thought yet unable to write anything down.  That’s right…in the shower…but when the Holy Spirit speaks to you, you listen!

As the context of this article was generating in my mind, this was the post title that came to me first.  But what exactly does it mean?  Well, it’s something that is a big misconception yet doesn’t get spoken about nearly enough, making it somewhat secretive.  But it shouldn’t be, thus making it Christianity’s Worst-Kept Secret…

I was thinking about how as soon as you mention you’re a Christian, suddenly people look at you differently.  Like you must live a perfect life and never do anything wrong, all pure and innocent while strumming a harp and sitting with perfect posture, living life in harmony with all of creation.  What I want to tell people is, that is so very far from the truth.

So here’s where the big secret comes in.  Ready? Continue reading
